Crochet Mushroom Gift Pocket Pattern

Each pocket is made in 3 pieces. A front piece, two back pieces,. The back pieces will be referred to as “Top Back Piece” and “Bottom Back Piece.” This no-sew pocket is created inside out. We will flip it right side out after completing the assembly.

You will see several color changes throughout this pattern. Keep these notes in mind as you see the color changes. To get clean color changes every time, start your last color A stitch by inserting your hook and pulling up a loop. Then drop color A and complete the stitch by picking up color B and pulling through both loops on your hook.

Instead of carrying color A throughout every color change, I like to cut a length of color A for one side of my work, and then use the rest of the color A yarn to work the other side of the color change. Refer to the video if you need help with this technique. (Time Stamp: 4:38)

For this part of the mushroom you don’t need two separate portions of Spice to go around your color changes, instead you can carry your mushroom body color since the spot stitches are so small. (Time Stamp: 12:10)

You will cut your Linen yarn at the end each spot and have two tails to sew in at each spot (if you don’t have the time or don’t want to mess with the hassle of sewing in tails, use puff paint for the spots!)

Assembly– Time Stamp 34:08

During assembly we will use the edges of each piece to crochet through.

We will be inserting our hooks into Bars and Holes. In the graph you will see a B and an H to represent the bars and holes. As you line up each piece you should be crocheting through a Bar and a Hole at one time. I explain this in detail in the video tutorial that goes with this pattern.

Set your front piece and bottom-top piece up so that the right sides are touching and your front piece is on top. All tails should be to the left of your work.

Line up the top four stitches of each piece.

Using the yarn still attached to your top back piece, insert your hook through the first single crochet st of the front piece, going through the same stitch on the top back piece. Create a Chain 1 to attach the pieces together.

SC 2 stitches together in the first SC space where you just joined.

SC 1 in the next 2 spaces.

SC two stitches together in the 4th stitch on the top of your work.

Now we will be working downward along the left-hand side of our mushroom. SC 2 stitches, being sure to go through the front piece and the top-back piece at the same time.

There will be 9 stitches along the raw edge before picking up the Bottom Back Piece.

Grab your Bottom Back piece.

The next 4 stitches will go through your Back Top piece, Back Bottom piece, and Front piece. Line your 3 pieces together so the back-top piece is sandwiched between your other two pieces.

Because the back pieces are on the same side of the pocket you’ll start by going through a bar in each back piece, and then a hole in the front piece to start, then alternate. (Time Stamp: 39:18)

Complete the fourth stitch in all three layers with the long length of Avocado yarn we left previously.

SC 7 through the Bars and Holes with your Avocado yarn. Now you are at the bottom of your mushroom pocket. INC into the first stitch at the corner, SC across 8 sts. INC in the last stitch at the corner. (12 across the bottom)

Now we are going to go back up the other side. This is just like the first side but in the reverse order.

SC 8 stitches with the Avocado. The final Bar for the eighth stitch is a bit weird because of the color change, go ahead and use it anyways. (Time Stamp: 44:17)

Switch to Spice, using the long tail we left at the beginning of the Top Back Piece (Time Stamp: 44:48)

SC 4 stitches with Spice, going through all 3 pieces of your mushroom.

Going through just the Front Piece and the Top Back Piece, continuing to use the Bars and Holes, SC 9 stitches.

That last space is a little tricky because of the previous stitches we put into it, but you can do it.
