Stitch Key (US Terms)

SC = Single Crochet
DC= Double Crochet
CH = Chain
SL ST= Slip Stitch
TR= Tripple Crochet

Note: Depending on what your personal brand needs, there are various ways to finish the draw string. On one of my soap holders I tied the end into a balloon knot and left it visible. On another soap holder I joined the ends of the draw string and sewed the tails into the drawstring itself. I show how to do both methods in the video that goes with this pattern.

We’ll be using the Lemon Peel stitch which is an alternating pattern of SC and DC. You can see this alternating pattern for the second row in the video at Time Stamp 6:15.

Ch 30 (leaving a long enough tail to close the bottom of your soap holder together).

Note: keep tension relaxed so that the final shape of the soap holder isn’t too narrow at the bottom.

Make sure the chain is facing the same direction as you join into the back bump of the first stitch to create a chain loop, Ch 1 (Time Stamp 3:28).

Row 1: SC into the same stitch as the join, DC in the next stitch, continue alternating stitches until you’re back at the first stitch. SL ST into first SC (Time Stamp 6:04). Ch 1, turn. (30)

Row 2: SC into the same stitch as the join, DC in the next stitch. Continue alternating stitches until you’re back at the first stitch. SL ST into first SC. (30)

Repeat rows 1-2 for rows 3-15, do not tie off.

Now we will close up the bottom of the soap holder by slip stitching the bottom together.

Turn your soap holder inside out, flatten your soap holder so that the beginning tail is at one of the corners. Insert your hook into a stitch on each side of the soap holder bottom and pull the yarn through from the tail we left at the beginning, Ch 1 (this does count as the first SL ST). SL ST across into both sides of the remaining 14 stitches. (15 SL ST)

Tie off and sew in your tail using your tapestry needle. Turn right side out.

Crochet Soap Holder: Drawstring (Time Stamp 15:00)

Ch 40-45 depending on your tension, 11.5″-12″ is ideal for the drawstring. Do not tie off (you can use a stitch marker to keep your work from unraveling).

Thread the starting side of the chain in the tapestry needle. Insert your needle between the TR into the bag, then start weaving the chain under and over the TR. (Time Stamp 16:28)

Note: when you get to the chain 3 from the TR row weave your chain around it. (Time Stamp: 17:47)

You should end with 1 TR between your drawstring ends.

Here you will decide how you want to complete your drawstring. You can either knot the ends and leave it.

Or, join the ends of the chain and sew the chain to the back of the soap holder so the joined part of the chain is hidden and doesn’t move. For further clarification please see the video that accompanies this pattern (Time Stamp (19:17)
